The former Derby County, Notts County, Kidderminster Harriers and Mansfield Town player leaves Brunton Park after more than a year at the club.
Murray had a transfer request granted by the League One club after the 24-year-old found he was not in the plans of Cumbrians boss Neil McDonald this season.
With Thursday's transfer deadline looming, Murray has opted to make the long journey south to continue his career at Plainmoor.
