Shrews bag Rovers winger

Shrewsbury Town manager Gary Peters has bolstered his left-sided options after adding Tranmere Rovers youngster Neil Ashton to his squad.

Peters had mentioned on numerous occasions he was keen to add balance to his side with Trevor Challis his only left-footed option.

The Shrews boss has secured Ashton, who has come through the ranks at Tranmere, on loan for the remainder of the League Two season.

"We want to take Neil for the rest of the season and I think it's important that we take loans for a season rather than a month," said Peters to the club's official website.

"I've seen him for the last three years playing for Tranmere either in the youth or reserves. He's quick, got a good left foot and can play left back or left-sided midfield and is a good crosser of the ball.

"I saw Neil a few weeks ago playing for Tranmere reserves against Manchester United and he actually got sent off, it was for a deliberate handball.

"He has bags of energy and enthusiasm for the game."
