Rovers play down Zola return

Tranmere have played down talk Calvin Zola could be set for a return to the side.

Tranmere have played down reports that Calvin Zola could be set for a return to the side.

The former Newcastle starlet has been unable to play a competitive game for Tranmere since November when the Home Office opened an investigation into his right to residency in this country.

Zola, who was born in the Republic of Congo has continued to train with Rovers while his future is argued out in Whitehall.

It had been reported that the impasse may finally be resolved to allow Zola to play again, but the club insist no decision has been made yet and that the player will have to continue to sit on the sidelines.

"Recent media reports stating Tranmere Rovers' striker Calvin Zola's return to action is imminent are inaccurate," read a club statement.

"The club has not suggested Calvin is soon to return at either the AGM or in discussions with press.

"The club does not know when any decision will be made on Calvin's future. It could be in days, weeks or months although it is hoped it will be sooner rather than later.

"Everything possible is being done to resolve his situation but it is not clear when anything further will be known.
