Tranmere Rovers have released midfielder Theodore Whitmore by mutual consent.

The Jamaican international leaves Prenton Park after failing to make an impact with the League One club this season.

The former Hull City player made five substitute appearances for the Wirral-based club this term, having signed a one-year deal with Rovers back in the summer.

Tranmere boss Brian Little has allowed the Caribbean player to find pastures new during the January transfer window.

"He hasn't been able to gain a regular place in the team this season, so we have given him the opportunity to move on with his career," Little told the club's official website.

"He is someone I have known for a long time who has been a very good player for me and I wish him every success in the future."
