Long lay-off for Rovers keeper

Doncaster Rovers keeper Andy Warrington could be out of action for four months.

Doncaster Rovers goalkeeper Andy Warrington could be out of action for four months.

The 30-year-old injured his foot during pre-season and was not initially expected to be sidelined for a lengthy period.

But an exploratory operation has shown up more ligament damage than the League One outfit had been expecting.

Warrington is now facing a lay-off between three and four months, with the injury scuppering his prospects of establishing himself as Rovers' first choice again.

Fellow shot-stopper Jan Budtz is also in the treatment room at present, with Doncaster boss Dave Penney (pictured) having signed Ben Smith as cover before the weekend.

Alan Blayney was between the posts for Saturday's 1-0 defeat at promoted Carlisle United and he is set for an extended run in the team.
