Sodje set for Crewe exit

EFE SODJE has been told he can leave Crewe Alexandra if he finds a new club.

The Nigerian has been told that he is not in Dario Gradi's plans for the future and can leave as soon as another club is fixed up.

The 30-year-old Nigerian defender has attracted the interest of Macclesfield, but no bids have yet been received for him.

Sodje will be following Dave Walton out of the Gresty Road exit door, as he has been in talks with a number of clubs over a move.

"I have been talking to clubs this week and went to see one on Tuesday," said Walton. "There are a lot of clubs interested, which I am quite pleased about.

"I will continue to talk to them and try and get the best deal I can for myself and my family.

"A lot of managers are still on holiday and in some cases it is a question of waiting for them to get back. I am prepared to move away from the Crewe area if I need to move.

"I have been keeping myself in trim and I have been made welcome, which I am grateful for.

"Dario needed to know where he stood for next season, so I understood why the contract offer was withdrawn."

Walton rejected the initial one-year deal and has been linked with Bristol City and Rushden & Diamonds.

Crewe are now looking for replacements, but one man they will not be going for is Danny Hay, who is available after failing to get a new deal at Walsall.

"He is not one we're looking at," said Alex assistant boss Neil Baker.

"I saw him quite a bit when he was playing for Leeds reserves, but not while he was at Walsall. And he has had injury problems since."
