Gills dump doomed Millers

Gillingham's hopes of avoiding the drop were boosted by a 3-1 win at Millmoor.

Gillingham boosted their chances of survival with their second away win of the season, beating doomed Rotherham 3-1 at Millmoor.

Goals from Michael Flynn, Mamady Sidibe and Darius Henderson were enough to give Stan Ternent's side their second consecutive win following their fine home victory over Wigan, although they remain in the relegation places.

Rotherham are heading for League One but they at least made a positive start when Paul McLaren forced a fine save from visiting keeper Steve Banks.

They soon faded, though, and Gillingham took the lead on 26 minutes when Flynn ran onto a long punt upfield and produced a cool finish to beat Mike Pollitt.

Martin Butler gave Rotherham fans something to cheer about when he turned to ball in from close range after Will Hoskins' shot had been blocked, but Ternent's men restored their lead when Sidibe got clear and touched the ball over the onrushing Pollitt.

Darius Henderson then made certain of the points when he collected a pass from Sidibe and went around Pollitt before turning the ball into an empty net.
