Cobblers capture Coke

Giles Coke has agreed to join Northampton after rejecting a new contract at Mansfield.

Giles Coke has agreed to join Northampton Town after rejecting a new contract at Mansfield Town.

The young midfielder had expressed a desire to secure fresh terms at Field Mill and was offered a deal by manager Billy Dearden.

But Coke has opted to turn down the chance to stay with Mansfield and has plumped for a step up to League One level with Northampton.

The 20-year-old has accepted a two-year contract with the Cobblers, with the fee to be decided by a tribunal.

During just over two years with Mansfield, Coke made 82 appearances for the club, chipping in with seven goals.

He has been out of action since January with a knee injury, but is expected to be fit to return in the early weeks of the new season.
