Lowry: We can beat drop

Chesterfield's Jamie Lowry says his team-mates expect to survive the drop.

Chesterfield defender Jamie Lowry has admitted it will be tough to escape relegation, but says his team-mates expect to survive the drop.

Lowry returned to first-team action in the 1-1 draw against Doncaster last week after four months out with glandular fever, and also played in the 1-0 defeat to Yeovil on Saturday.

And, while time is running out for The Spireites to find form, Lowry remains convinced they can return to form.

"We are in the relegation zone, so it will be tough but we are all confident that we can pick up enough points between now and the end of the season," he said.

The club are currently without a permanent manager since the departure of Roy McFarland, but Lowry thinks caretaker boss Lee Richardson is capable of steering the side to safety.

"He can do it because he has got a decent bunch of lads that all want to work for him and do well for him.

"He did a lot of the coaching when Roy McFarland was here and he is very good at what he does."
