Flitney red overturned

Barnet goalkeeper Ross Flitney has had his red card overturned.

Barnet goalkeeper Ross Flitney has had the red card administered in the Carling Cup clash with Manchester United overturned.

Flitney was dismissed after just two minutes of the Old Trafford tie for handling outside the area, an act which effectively put pay to The Bees' hopes of causing an upset.

Referee Richard Beeby was initially adamant, however, the straight red card has now been rescinded by The Football Association.

Barnet went on to lose the match 4-1 with the respective managers, Sir Alex Ferguson and Paul Fairclough, both describing the decision as "harsh."

The FA's concession means the 21-year-old will not now serve a suspension.
