Thomson worry for Rangers

Rangers midfielder Kevin Thomson could miss the start of the new SPL season.

Rangers midfielder Kevin Thomson could miss the start of the new SPL season after his ordeal in the pre-season game against Falkirk.

The Gers' 1-1 draw was overshadowed by Thomson's sudden collapse after 30 minutes, although Walter Smith allayed fears by revealing the player had been suffering from an ear infection.

Thomson hopes to be cleared to play against Ajax on Tuesday, but his recovery may take until the middle of August.

The former Hibernian midfielder could therefore miss the opening games of the new season, which includes the first leg of the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round.
