Hibernian boss Tony Mowbray has confirmed Celtic are chasing Gary Caldwell.

Hibernian boss Tony Mowbray has confirmed Celtic are chasing Gary Caldwell.

The Bhoys have been linked with Caldwell for some time as they look to strengthen their defence

Caldwell's future at Hibs is uncertain as he is out of contract at Easter Road in the summer.

The Scottish international is free to talk to interested clubs from now and reports suggest he could sign a pre-contract with Celtic before making the move to Parkhead next summer.

"I have had discussions with Gordon Strachan about Gary Caldwell and I am fully aware of their interest in the player," Mowbray told the Scotsman.

"There is the possibility of them signing a pre-contract with Gary and I would have no problem with that at all. As I have said to the player and Gordon, I cannot prevent that, it's within the rules of the game.

"They are allowed to speak to any player with less than six months remaining on his contract and within their rights to sign pre-contracts with anyone."

Celtic are also being linked with a move for Dundee United ace Mark Wilson.

Wilson is thought to be a target for several clubs after impressing at Tannadice and United face a fight to keep hold of the full back.
