Strachan hopeful over Maloney

Celtic boss Gordon Strachan remains hopeful of keeping Shaun Maloney at Parkhead.

Celtic boss Gordon Strachan remains hopeful of keeping Shaun Maloney at Parkhead.

Maloney's current contract expires at the end of the season and it is feared he could leave Glasgow for nothing.

Contract talks have stalled between both parties and a number of sides are thought to be monitoring the Scottish international's situation closely.

Strachan is keen to keep Maloney and is optimistic a deal can be thrashed out to see him remain in Glasgow.

"We are still talking but, again, we are playing a silly wee game," said Strachan.

"It's part of the make-up of the transfer window.

"I would like to think he will be here and I see no reason why he should go anywhere else.

"He likes it here so we have to make sure that a deal can be thrashed out."
