Bhoys target Barca ace

Barcelona have admitted that Celtic are one of several clubs chasing Santiago Ezquerro.

Celtic are believed to have enquired about the versatile attacker as Gordon Strachan continues his squad reshaping.

Ezquerro looks set to leave Barcelona after failing to establish himself at Camp Nou since his free transfer arrival from Athletic Bilbao in the summer of 2005.

The 31-year-old is well down the pecking order in Frank Rijkaard's plans and he little more than a bit-part player at the Spanish giants.

Ezquerro is keen on a move away in search of regular first-team action and Barca's director of football Txiki Beguiristain has admitted the player is keen on a move to Britain.

"For the time being, nothing is concrete," Beguiristain told the Daily Record. "Santi has never hidden his desire to play in the British Isles.

We are working on it but nothing is yet determined. Talks with some clubs do exist but I'd prefer not to add any more until a deal is confirmed.

"We are not worried because there is plenty of time left before the end of the transfer window on August 31."
