Gers pay the penalty

Steven Naismith's late penalty gave Kilmarnock a 2-2 draw with Rangers.

Steven Naismith's late penalty gave Kilmarnock a 2-2 draw with Rangers.

The 19-year-old, who is set to go to Arsenal on trial next week, kept his cool from the spot to score after Alan Hutton had handled in the penalty area.

Kilmarnock twice came from behind to earn a draw after Kris Boyd returned to haunt his old club with both goals for Rangers.

Boyd broke the deadlock two minutes before the break with a neat turn and finish inside the box to silence the home fans.

Kilmarnock refused to lie down and drew level with Frazer Wright rising highest to head home Gary Wales' corner for his first goal for Killie.

Rangers wasted several opportunities to restore their lead with Dado Prso the biggest culprit with a couple of poor finishes.

The visitors looked to have grabbed the win five minutes from time when Prso sent Boyd clear on goal and the Scottish international swept his left-footed shot home.

It looked like being enough for Paul Le Guen's men before Killie won a penalty in stoppage time after Hutton handled the ball in the area and man of the moment Naismith thumped his spot kick high into the net.

The point was Kilmarnock's first in four years against Rangers and means the Ibrox side miss the chance to go back to the top of the table.
