Hibs punish poor Pars

Hibernian moved into the top six of the SPL with a comfortable 4-0 win over Dunfermline.

Hibernian moved into the top six of the SPL with a comfortable 4-0 win over Dunfermline.

Goals from Ivan Sproule, Chris Killen (2) and Abdessalam Benjelloun were enough to give managerless Hibs all three points.

Hibs dominated proceedings from the start and Killen had a goal ruled out for offside and Rob Jones saw a point-blank header superbly saved by Dorus De Vries.

Dunfermline had claims for a penalty turned down when Mark Burchill went down in the box under a challenge from Hibs goalkeeper Zbigniew Malkowski, but their appeals were waved away.

Hibs broke the deadlock a minute before the break when Northern Ireland international coolly lobbed the ball over De Vries.

Michael Stewart smashed a shot against the crossbar in the second half before Hibs doubled their lead on 62 minutes with Killen finishing off Sproule's neat approach play.

Benjelloun added a third a minute from time with a clinical finish from 12 yards.

Hibs completed a good night's work in the dying seconds when Killen headed home Merouane Zemmama's corner for his second goal of the contest.

The defeat leaves Dunfermline sitting second from bottom of the table, while the win was Hibs' first in four games.
