Mamadou Niang gave Marseille the lead on 22 minutes and Djibril Cisse doubled the advantage seven minutes after the break.
Benjamin Gavanon pulled a goal back for Nancy on 64 minutes when converting from the penalty spot and Youssouf Hadji earned the visitors a point with an equaliser ten minutes from time.
The draw was good enough to send Nancy to the top of the table, while Marseille are still looking for their first win of the season.
