L'OL consider Boumsong bid

Lyon insist they have not given up hope of landing a new striker before the transfer window closes. The French champions' early season form is causing some concern after they suffered their second successive league defeat at Lorient on Saturday. And with former Arsenal striker Sylvain Wiltord set to join Rennes this week the Stade de Gerland side admit they need new blood to kick-start their title defence. Chairman Jean-Michel Aulas confirmed that the club's directors are set to meet on Monday to discuss the situation but admits Alain Perrin could be backed by new signings.

Expectations

Aulas told Channel France 2: "We need to try and match the expectations of people who want significant arrivals before 31st August. "All the parties will meet on Monday to think seriously about what we can do. "If the Wiltord case evolves, we could decide to replace him. The problem is not sorted out but it could be soon." Meanwhile, Lyon are believed to be lining up a move to sign Juventus defender Jean-Alain Boumsong. The club are desperate to find a replacement for Brazilian defender Cris, who is facing six months out after knee surgery. With target Gabriel Heinze set to join Liverpool from Manchester United, Lyon have turned their attentions to former Newcastle defender Boumsong, who has not figured under Claudio Ranieri at Stadio Delle Alpi.
