Canaries clip Lyon's wings

LE CHAMPIONNAT champions Nantes got back on winning ways as they cruised past high-flying Lyon with a 3-0 win at Louis-Fonteneau.

The Canaries have made a terrible start to their title defence and have been languishing near the foot of the table, although the win against second placed Lyon sends them up into 11th place in the league.

Two goals from Marama Vahirua and Viorel Moldovan (pictured) gave Angel Marcos's side the win that could kick-start their season.

Tahitian-born striker Vahirua struck the opening goal after 29 minutes when he gathered the loose ball after l'OL keeper Gregory Coupet had saved Stephane Ziani's header, and knocked the ball into the empty net.

He then got his, and his team's, second goal when he headed in Ziani's cross from the right on the stroke of half time.

Romanian striker Moldovan then added the finishing touches to the win in the 52nd minute when he slotted the ball home from ten yards out.
