Clerc agent swamped with offers

An incredible 38 clubs are interested in signing Lyon's Francois Clerc for free.

An incredible 38 clubs are interested in signing Lyon's Francois Clerc, ten of them from England, according to his agent.

The defender has emerged as a key figure in the French Ligue 1 leaders' UEFA Champions League run and is out of contract in the summer.

His Bosman free status has alerted many managers, with Marseille the only side to be named as confirmed suitors.

However, it is quite easy to guess at the Scottish Premier League teams who are keen on landing the 22-year-old.

"Yes, Marseille are interested," his agent Frederic Guerra stated to the French media.

"But clubs like that, there are some ten in France, ten in Italy, ten in England, four in Scotland and four in Germany.

"No path is privileged.

"Lyon will position themselves and that is normal. I met Jean-Michel Aulas this week. We made progress but nothing concrete.

"I think that, for Francois, we will know at the latest by mid-April."

Clerc has made a late surge for France's World Cup squad and clearly has many admirers across Europe, although Lyon remain determined to try and tie him to fresh terms.
