Bordeaux boss signs on

Bordeaux coach Michel Pavon has signed a one-year contract extension.

Bordeaux coach Michel Pavon has signed a one-year contract extension with the Ligue 1 outfit.

Despite an average season to date that has seen Les Girondins climb to just tenth in the table, chairman Jean-Louis Triaud has shown his faith in the current management.

The former Bordeaux captain took over from Elie Baup in October 2003 at Stade Chaban-Delmas, and is still just 36 years of age.

Triaud emphasised that he enjoys a good relationship with Pavon, although warned that next campaign no excuses could be made based on the age of the players.

"It is in the nature of things considering he is a coach we trust and as it goes off very well between us," said Triaud.

"We can not live transitional seasons in the long term, we can not talk about inexperience for players who will have some 50 matches in Ligue 1."

Triaud also confirmed his intention to hold onto the French outfit's brightest young talent as the Bordeaux starlets have been attracting attention, most notably Rio Mavuba who has been linked with a move to Arsenal and Real Madrid.

"I don't even ask myself the question [of whether to sell]," declared Triaud.
