Ricardo a fan of Savidan

Bordeaux have made enquiries about Valenciennes star Steve Savidan.

Bordeaux coach Ricardo has admitted that he made enquiries about Valenciennes hot-shot Steve Savidan during the transfer window.

The previously unheralded striker is topping the goalscoring charts in Ligue 1 at present and has attracted the attention of a number of clubs due to his goalscoring exploits.

Savidan grabbed a remarkable four-goal haul at the weekend and has seemingly acclimatised immediately to life in Le Championnat.

Now Ricardo has revealed he was interested in the 28-year-old but did not want to take the hit-man away from Valenciennes coach Antoine Kombouare - his former team-mate at Paris Saint Germain.

"At the end of January we asked for information about Savidan because he is a very good player," Ricardo told L'Equipe.

"But he has his heart, and there is Valenciennes coach Antonie Kombouare. It was not very fair towards him to do that during mid-season."

Ricardo has also stated his belief that Julien Faubert - currently sidelined with a broken nose - has suffered a dip in form due to speculation over his future.

The French international has been linked with both Lyon and Milan since the summer and has been unable to replicate the kind of performances that saw him star for Les Girondins last season.

However Ricardo is confident of keeping hold of the star who is contracted until 2010.

"I do not worry about Julien, his status changed last summer," stated Ricardo.

"There were those Italian and French offers, it has bothered him. There were also injuries."
