Barthez in Toulouse frame

The possibility of Fabien Barthez signing for Toulouse appears to be looming ever larger.

The possibility of veteran goalkeeper Fabien Barthez signing for Toulouse appears to be looming ever larger.

The eccentric 35-year-old took time out to consider his future after the World Cup before announcing that he was looking to prolong his career, preferably at home town club Toulouse.

Toulouse boss Elie Baup had also indicated that he still rated Barthez, but the chances of him actually pursuing the Frenchman's signature appeared slim due to the fact that he possesses two top quality keepers - Christophe Revault and Nicolas Douchez - at the Stadium Municipal.

However, a chain of events looks like clearing the path for Barthez to secure his dream move.

Manchester City appear to be closing in on Rennes shot-stopper Andreas Isaksson and Rennes, as a result, have set their sights on Revault.

Baup would then be in need of more cover between the posts, with Barthez by far the likeliest option.
