Hognon nets new deal

Vincent Hognon has signed a new contract extension with St Etienne.

St Etienne have been handed a boost with the news that Vincent Hognon has signed a new contract.

The 31-year-old defender has been a key player for the club over the past couple of seasons and has been rewarded with a one-year contract extension.

Hognon, who previously played his football at Nancy, is now committed to St Etienne until 2008.

Meanwhile, St Etienne's chairman Barnard Caiazzo has outlined the ambitious plans he has for the club, pledging to back his manager in the transfer market at the season's conclusion.

''We will have between eight and nine million euros to spend on new players,'' he told But!

''This amount will help us to sign three players. Then we will complete our recruitment with the money we obtain from selling players.

''There is no point in signing players at the last moment.''
