Barca close to Giuly capture

Barcelona are close to sealing a deal to land Monaco skipper Ludovic Giuly.

The 27-year-old has suffered a miserable few days having tasted defeat in the UEFA Champions League final against Porto, and then being forced out of the France squad for Euro 2004 due to an injury sustained in the 3-0 loss.

However, Giuly looks set for a morale boost with what he described as a 'dream' move to Camp Nou seemingly close to completion.

"Barcelona is a club I have dreamed about for a long time," he told Le Parisien. "This is the transfer of my life.

"When Barcelona are interested you have to seize your chance."

It is reported that Giuly and his agent Alain Migliascio met Barca technical secretary Txiki Beguiristain in Paris last week where he verbally agreed to join the Catalan titans.

However, the two clubs have yet to agree a fee for the schemer who was instrumental in his side's run to the Champions League final.

Monaco are believed to want around ‚é¼10 million (£6 million) for the diminutive midfielder who still has a year left on his contract at the Stade Louis II, but Barca are not willing to meet that price-tag.

A compromise figure is expected to be reached in the coming days as the player's desire to move to Spain will ensure that the transfer goes through.
