LANDREAU REJECTED BARCA CHANCE

NANTES goalkeeper Mikael Landreau has decided to reject a move to Barcelona, claiming that French people rarely succeed at Camp Nou.

The Canaries` captain confirmed that discussions had taken place, but decided to stay and embark on a Champions League campaign with the Championnat winners.

"I had contact with Barcelona," he admitted. "But, for several reasons, I didn't really want to go there.

"Firstly, it is an exposed club where a few Frenchmen have failed to succeed.  And, secondly, it is a year before the World Cup and I have improved with Nantes and I want to continue my upward curve without taking any risks.

"By leaving, I would have taken a huge risk. And choosing Barca as my first destination, where you can expect adaptation trouble, it would not have been easy.

"I would have earned three times more money there, but it's not my present priority.

"I will have other opportunities."

Landreau is sure to have been affected by the problems of Barca`s current French keeper Richard Dutruel, who has suffered a dip in form, and international midfielder Emmanuel Petit, who ended a miserable time in Catalunya by moving to Chelsea.
