AYALA RECEIVES THREE MATCH BAN

VALENCIA defender Roberto Ayala has been handed a three match ban, after officials studied evidence of his clash with Barcelona star Simao, when the two teams met a couple of weeks ago.

The Spanish disciplinary committee met on Wednesday to study evidence regarding the actions of the Argentinian defender, who was accused of stamping and kicking the Portuguese winger several times after they appeared to become tangled during a challenge.

Both Valencia, and Ayala himself, were quick to rebuff these claims, offering several pleas and counter-questions to the arbitrary panel.

Ayala has added on several occasions that the actions were not deliberate, and that he was losing his balance at the time.

However, after studying the responses from match referee Antonio Jose Lopez Nieto, and the Portuguese youngster, the committee decided to act, handing the player a three match ban for a 'serious infringement'.

The Spanish side, currently fourth in the league, are likely to launch an appeal for the player.

Meanwhile, Segunda division Elche have completed the signing of youngster Libero Parri Romero.

The 19-year-old midfielder will join the club on loan for the rest of the current season, with record signing Pablo Cesar Aimar taking over his number 22 shirt.
