Barca agree Jardel deal

BARCELONA have agreed a deal to sign Sporting Lisbon's prolific striker Mario Jardel.

The Brazilian marksman has been desperate to quit the Portuguese champions, with Barca coach Louis van Gaal a firm admirer of his scoring prowess.

The Catalan giants are due for a meeting with Sporting on Saturday when the transfer is expected to be finalised.

Sporting will receive ‚é¼5 million (£3 million) plus Jardel's compatriot Geovanni in part exchange.

Jardel's name has rarely been off the scoresheet since he arrived in Europe in 1996 joining Porto, with whom he spent four years.

An equally prolific season with Galatasaray preceded his switch to Sporting last summer and his goals were instrumental in the Lisbon outfit lifting the title.

For Barca boss van Gaal it is third time lucky as he attempted to sign Jardel while in charge at Ajax and during his first spell at the Camp Nou helm.

Young Brazilian midfielder Geovanni has only enjoyed one year with Barcelona and heads to Portugal hoping to establish himself as a regular first team performer.

Barca ace Javier Saviola is already looking forward to Jardel's arrival claiming the Samba star will be very well received 'if he has come to score goals.'
