Quaresma happy to end Barca nightmare

New Porto signing Ricardo Quaresma has revealed his relief at leaving Barcelona after just one season.

The Portuguese starlet, who only moved to Camp Nou last summer in a £4 million deal from Sporting Lisbon, endured a frustrating campaign under Barca manager Frank Rijkaard.

His awful season with the Catalan giants was capped by a broken foot injury in May, which forced him to miss Euro 2004 with hosts Portugal.

Quaresma's wish to leave Barca was realised earlier in the month when Porto signed him in an exchange deal that saw Portugal's Euro 2004 star Deco travel in the other direction to Barca.

Talking to Portuguese daily 'O Jogo', the 20-year-old revealed how poor his relationship with Rijkaard had become, claiming he learned nothing football-wise under the Dutchman's charge last term.

"He wanted me to play a certain way, and I tried to do it," Quaresma said.

"I changed my playing style to please him, but it always ended up in the same result. Either I was on the bench or ruled out of the side altogether.

"I then decided to try and play my style of football and that's when we started to have disagreements.

"In the beginning, I did play and things were going well, then suddenly, the worse time of my life arrived and the trainer did not give me an explanation.

"From today, I do not want to explain about what happened to me in Barcelona."

Despite moving to Sporting's rivals Porto for next season, Quaresma revealed his desire to do well with his new club and continue the success that has been seen at the Estadio do Dragao club recently.

"I have come to gain everything and try and return to the same Quaresma that left Portugal," he added.

"Looking ahead to next season, we are favourites.

"All the other clubs (in Portugal) have respect for Porto, so we only can think about being victorious."
