Laporta: Barca can sign anyone

Joan Laporta has claimed Barca have the money to purchase any player in the world.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has claimed the Catalan giants have the money and pulling power to purchase any player their coaching staff might ask for.

Barca had huge debts when Laporta came to the helm last summer and he had to introduce several measures to restore financial stability.

The club have since secured backing from local banking institutions and, Laporta claims, now have the financial clout to land any player they target.

"Barcelona is sufficiently well repaired to be able to sign any player that Tkixi Beguiristain or the coach, Frank Rijkaard, asks us to," Laporta stated.

"We could take on any signing, but it's another thing whether the coaching staff would consider it correct."

Barca could well be dipping into the transfer market in the near future, despite the window for signings being closed.

Spanish league rules stipulate that clubs are permitted to sign replacements for any player that is ruled out with a long-term injury, and the Catalans have suffered two such injuries in recent weeks.

Both Gabri and Thiago Motta have been ruled out for around six months after tearing cruciate knee ligaments, and Rijkaard may well decide his squad needs bolstering as a result.

Laporta confirmed that Motta had undergone surgery for his problem in America, and revealed the operation was a complete success.

"I spoke with Motta last night (Monday) after his operation and I know everything went perfectly and that his recuperation will be quicker than expected because the operation was a success," said the Dutchman.
