More injury woe for Barca

Barcelona will be without Ludovic Giuly and Gerard for this weekend's Catalan derby.

Barcelona's injury problems show no sign of abating with two more players having been ruled out of this weekend's Catalan derby.

Ludovic Giuly and Gerard are the latest casualties, although neither player is expected to be sidelined for an extended period.

French international Giuly has a calf injury and is likely to be out of action for around a week.

Giuly is reported to have clashed with Barca doctors over the injury which kept him out of France's recent international fixtures.

The former Monaco star claims Barca missed the injury causing him to aggravate it in the league win over Numancia nearly two weeks ago.

Meanwhile, Gerard has a niggling groin complaint which is expected to lay him low for around two weeks.

Both players will definitely miss Saturday's clash with Espanyol, and look almost certain to sit out next week's UEFA Champions League fixture with Milan.

The duo join Gabri, Edmilson, Thiago Motta, Silvinho and Albert Joquera in the treatment room, with Frank Rijkaard's squad now stretched to its limit.
