Zaragoza grab Garcia

Real Zaragoza have snapped up Sergio Garcia from Barcelona for ‚é¼1.5million.

Real Zaragoza have snapped up Sergio Garcia from Barcelona for ‚é¼1.5million as they look to reinforce their front line following the sale of David Villa to Valencia.

The 22-year-old has signed a four-year deal at La Romareda after weeks of negotiations were finally settled with Zaragoza paying up to ‚é¼1.5million when clauses are activated in the contract, while Barca will receive 20 per cent of any future transfer fee.

Garcia came through the youth team ranks at Camp Nou, but failed to make an impression in the first team after making his debut in September 2003.

After the club signed Samuel Eto'o from Mallorca last summer, Garcia was loaned out to newly-promoted Levante, but despite scoring six goals in his 31 appearances could not prevent the team making an immediate return to the second division.

With Barca's technical director, Txiki Begiristain, stating that the squad's attacking options are complete, Garcia knew his days at the club were numbered and jumped at the chance to sign for Zaragoza.

The Aragonese club needed to bring in a goalscorer having sold Villa to Valencia and parted company with Goran Drulic and Javi Moreno since the end of the last campaign.
