Betis to bag Maxi

Real Betis are firm favourites to sign Maxi Lopez on loan from Barcelona.

Real Betis are firm favourites to sign Maxi Lopez on loan from Barcelona during the January transfer window the Catalan club have announced, but a deal has still not been finalised.

The Argentinian striker has been told that he will have to find himself another team for the second half of the current campaign and Barca are actively touting his name around in order to secure a temporary move.

"We are talking to Betis and there is a chance that he will go there," Barcelona's technical secretary, Txiki Begiristain, explained. "No deal has been done yet though.

"They have shown interest, but I am a fan of announcing real things, not possibilities. When there is something to announce we shall do so, whether that is about Betis or another team."

Maxi joined the Blaugrana in the previous winter transfer window from River Plate when the club were suffering an injury crisis, but this season his chances have been limited to just one substitute appearance against Betis.

The Andalucian club's coach, Llorenc Serra Ferrer, will be without any of his first choice strikers after Dani was ruled out for four weeks after suffering an injury in the local derby against Sevilla at the weekend.

Ricardo Oliveira tore ligaments in his right knee in the team's UEFA Champions League victory against Chelsea and has been ruled out for the rest of the campaign.
