Samuel pledges to stay at Roma

ROMA defender Walter Samuel has rubbished reports linking him with a possible move to Real Madrid and pledged his future to the Giallorossi.

Real have been continually linked with the classy defender, but the Argentine ace insists he has had no contact with the Spanish giants and that he is happy to stay at the Stadio Olympico.

"I'm very happy at this club," said Samuel. "I've seen the stories linking me with Real but those things are written to just sell papers.

"As for Real Madrid, there has been talk of their interest in me but the truth is that I have never had contact with Real.

"I have a contract with Roma until 2006, then we will see."

Samuel welcomed the signing of Romanian star Cristian Chivu from Ajax and believes he will boost their title aspirations.

"He is an important player and one that has quality," added Samuel. "With him we can fight for the scudetto.

"He's a great player and if another new face could arrive that would be better too."
