Inter enter Ballack race

Internazionale supremo Massimo Moratti has declared his interest in Michael Ballack.

Internazionale supremo Massimo Moratti has officially entered Internazionale into the race to sign German star Michael Ballack.

The Bayern Munich star is one of Europe's most sought after stars with his contract expiring in the summer, and Juventus and Real Madrid have so far indicated they are ready to table lucrative offers in a bid to snare the German international for free.

However Inter can now be added to that list after Moratti described his admiration for the player he sees as an ideal replacement for the departing Juan Sebastian Veron.

"To replace him [Veron] on the tactical plan we have Pizarro and so we are alright," said Moratti.

"Anyway Veron is the driving force of the team and so should I have to think of a player with his characteristics I can only point out Ballack.

"He has class, charisma and character.

"Surely, someone keeps telling me that he is different to Veron, but he's different only for the place on the pitch, for the other they are both the same - absolute champions.

"It doesn't seem to me he has already agreed with someone.

"Many clubs are following him and we are there too.

"It's an important investment, Ballack is a player of ‚é¼5 million a season, on that level anyway this is the expense."

Moratti has not yet given up hope that Veron will renege on his decision to return to Argentina, citing the bad career move taken by former Nerazzurri star Mathias Almeyda.

"I'd really like him to stay and that he will make a U-turn," Moratti added.

"I don't know why, so young, he made himself the problem to go back home and I fear after six months he could regret it, as happened to Mathias Almeyda."
