Los Merengues set to go Gago

Real Madrid's president insists they have struck a deal to sign Boca's Fernando Gago.

Real Madrid have struck a deal to sign Boca Juniors midfielder Fernando Gago, according to club president Ramon Calderon.

The 20-year-old was integral to the Boca team that were pipped to the Argentine championship by Estudiantes in a play-off last week.

Los Merengues have already signed Argentine teenage striker Gonzalo Higuain and Brazilian full-back Marcelo for the January transfer window, and now Gago's arrival appears imminent as well.

"Everything has turned out as we had hoped, the player will be here tomorrow," Calderon told Spain's Radio Nacional on Wednesday.

The youngster's fee is expected to be somewhere in the region of ‚é¼20million (£13.5million), on a deal which would keep Gago at the Bernabeu until 2013.
