Injury blow for Real

Real Madrid will be without Brazilian defender Robert Carlos for the next month.

Real Madrid will be without Brazilian defender Robert Carlos for the next month, while Marcelo is set to be out of action for eight weeks.

The veteran defender picked up a calf injury during Thursday's Copa Del Rey clash at Real Betis and scans have confirmed a tear to the muscle.

The news will come as a blow to coach Fabio Capello as Marcelo, who is viewed as Roberto Carlos' long-term successor down the left-hand side, is also sidelined with an ankle injury.

Marcelo only joined Real in January from Fluminense, but he is set to miss the next two months after damaging his ankle in training.

Capello's men host Real Zaragoza on Sunday and Raul Bravo may be asked to cover at left-back.
