Che starlet signs on

Valencia starlet Raul Albiol has signed a two-year contract extension.

Valencia starlet Raul Albiol has signed a two-year contract extension.

The 20-year-old has blossomed under Quique Flores this term and is now a fixture in the heart of Valencia's defence.

Having come through the youth ranks at the Mestalla, he got his break in the top-flight last term when Flores - then manager at Getafe - took him on a season-long loan.

When Flores was handed the reins at the Mestalla last summer he immediately promoted Albiol to his first-team squad and the youngster now forms part of the club's first-choice centre back pairing with Argentine veteran Roberto Ayala.

He has impressed immensely this term and has helped Valencia to the best defensive record in La Liga.

Although he was already under contract until 2009, the Che were keen to hand him an improved deal to ward off any suitors and, under the terms of his new agreement, his release clause stands at ‚é¼60 million (£40 million).
