Joaquin calls for change

Joaquin has hit out at the influence still wielded by Manuel Ruiz de Lopera at Betis.

Joaquin has hit out at the influence still wielded by Real Betis' former president Manuel Ruiz de Lopera, stating that the club will only bounce back if he leaves.

After a troublesome switch to Valencia in the summer, the Spain international has reflected on his former team's poor start to the season.

With Betis entrenched in the relegation zone, Joaquin believes that things would improve if Lopera, who stepped down as president at the end of last season, was ousted from the club.

"For Betis to move out of the relegation zone and back up to where the club should be I think a lot of things need to change and, perhaps, one of those might be that Lopera leaves," he said.

Lopera still makes key decisions behind the scenes at the Andalucian club and was in the limelight again when he warned that Joaquin would be loaned out to Albacete if he continued to request a transfer over the summer.

Despite the fall out between the pair, the player admits that he would return to the club one day even if the former president was still present.

"I would return to Betis whether Lopera was there or not," Joaquin explained. "If I saw him on the street I would not cross to the other side because I have not done anything to him.

"But I do miss Betis and the supporters."
