Nastic to bring in striker

Gimnastic have agreed a deal to sign Racing Santander striker Ruben Castro.

Gimnastic de Tarragona have agreed a deal to sign Racing Santander striker Ruben Castro.

The hit-man, 25, is currently on a season-long loan at Racing having moved from Deportivo La Coruna as part of the deal that took goalkeeper Dudu Aouate to the Riazor in the summer.

However, he has been completely overlooked by Racing coach Miguel Angel Portugal this term and has jumped at the chance of first-team football at Gimnastic.

The Catalan minnows are in the market for a new player having been given permission to cover the loss of Oscar Lopez who has sustained a long-term injury.

Lengthy negotiations between Depor, Racing, Gimnastic and the player himself have now proved fruitful and Castro, having passed a medical, will now link up with his new Nastic team-mates in the near future.

His capture will come as a welcome boost for the side managed by Luis Cesar Sampedro who have struggled to adapt to life in La Primera and currently find themselves second bottom.

Meanwhile, Racing midfielder Felipe Melo faces up to two months out of action after undergoing surgery on a knee injury.

The Brazilian had a short operation to repair damage to knee meniscus and will now be on the sidelines until the New Year.
