Espanyol chase Obodo

Espanyol have opened negotiations with Perugia to try and secure the services of midfielder Cris Obodo.

The 20-year-old is already an established Nigeria international and is highly regarded in Serie A.

He has been closely tracked by Internazionale in the past, while Milan, Juventus and Newcastle have all been linked with the youngster along with Espanyol's Primera rivals Valencia and Real Zaragoza.

However, the Catalan outfit have confirmed they are in talks with Perugia who look certain to have to sell their top stars this summer after relegation from the Italian top flight.

A fee of at least ‚é¼2 million (£1.2 million) has been suggested for the transfer, but it seems likely Perugia will push for substantially more.

Espanyol boss Miguel Angel Lotina (pictured) is determined to land the Super Eagle, and believes he would be ideally suited for the style of football in Spain.

"He could triumph in the Spanish league at a club like ours," declared Lotina.
