Lopez earns Paraguay draw

World Cup finalists Paraguay played out a 1-1 draw with Catalunya in a friendly.

World Cup finalists Paraguay, who will be in England's group in Germany next year, played out a 1-1 draw with Catalunya in a friendly on Wednesday.

The Camp Nou fixture attracted a crowd of 35,000, even though the home side were missing many of their big names, including Carles Puyol, Xavi, Raul Tamudo, Luis Garcia, Gerard Pique and Cesc Fabregas.

There were many substitutions in the game so the match was a little disrupted and did not have a great flow about it.

Jonathan Soriano put Catalunya ahead just before the hour mark as the Espanyol youngster superbly beat Derlis Gomez in the Paraguayan goal.

Dante Lopez equalised for the South Americans ten minutes later when heading past Francesc Arnau, who had replaced Victor Valdes a quarter of an hour earlier.

Although veteran Josep Guardiola came on for Catalunya, even his probings could not conjure up a winner against the determined visitors.

In Bilbao, a first half own-goal from Osasuna defender Cesar Cruchaga gave Cameroon a 1-0 victory over the Basque Country selects.

Like Catalunya, the Basque Country field a select XI once a year in a friendly and defeat to The Indomitable Lions at San Mames was the first in 14 friendly matches for the Basques, with their last reverse coming in August 1980 against Hungary.

Cameroon, who were without Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o, used the match as a warm-up for next month's African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
