De La Pena talks on hold

Espanyol's Ivan De La Pena will delay new contract talks until the end of the season.

Espanyol's Ivan De La Pena will delay new contract talks until the end of the season.

The 30-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and has already attracted interest from Premiership side Bolton Wanderers and Racing Santander.

However, the former Spain international is keen to stay with the Uefa Cup semi-finalists if the two parties can agree a new deal.

The player's agent Manel Ferrer has confirmed that the talks over a new three-year deal at Estadio Olimpico de Montjuic have stalled and will only re-start at the end of the current campaign.

Espanyol's coach Ernesto Valverde says he would like to keep De La Pena, known as the 'Little Buddha', but says the club will only offer him a two-year contract.
