Navas attracts English interest

Reading and Sunderland are taking a keen interest in Gimnastic defender Cesar Navas.

Skysports.com understands that both Reading and Sunderland are taking a keen interest in Gimnastic de Tarragona defender Cesar Navas.

The central defender is currently on loan at the Primera Liga strugglers from Malaga but the possibility of a switch to English football could well reappear when the transfer window opens.

Navas was linked with both Aston Villa and Charlton last summer, with a move to The Valley reportedly falling through due to the clubs' inability to agree on a transfer fee.

However, Reading and Sunderland have now emerged as possible suitors after sending scouts to watch the 25-year-old in action in recent weeks.

The former Real Madrid defender insists he knows nothing of any interest, and is currently focused on dragging his side out of the relegation zone.

"Sincerely for me this is the first news I have heard but it is certain that in the past Malaga have received an offer and rejected it," Navas told skysports.com.

"It is flattering but I only desire to work hard to help Nastic in the fight for safety."

Navas's last Liga outing ended in disaster as he was dismissed after just six minutes of Gimnastic's 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid on Sunday.
