Thrilling win for Inter

INTERNAZIONALE maintained their three-point lead at the head of Serie A with a pulsating 4-3 win at Empoli.

Hector Cuper has a fearsome strike-force at his disposal and two of his forwards, Hernan Crespo and Alvaro Recoba, were on target as Inter proved to be too strong for the home side.

Crespo scored the opener on six minutes, following good work from Recoba.

Javier Zanetti notched the second on 11 minutes as Inter threatened to run riot, but Empoli shocked the visitors when Antonio Di Natale netted.

Inter regrouped and a goal shortly after the break by Recoba knocked the stuffing out of Empoli.

Ighli Vannucchi kept Inter honest by reducing Empoli`s deficit to one, but they could not fashion an equaliser and were hit with a late sucker punch by Daniele Adani.

Inter could not completely kill off Empoli, who made the score 4-3 in the dying seconds when Francesco Tavano netted.

A second-half goal by Czech Republic ace Pavel Nedved gave Juventus a 1-0 win at Piacenza that keeps them in third place.

Milan started the day in second, and only a last-minute strike from Brazilian superstar Rivaldo gave them a 1-0 win over Udinese.

Lazio continue to produce the good and goals by Stefano Fiore, Dejan Stankovic and Bernardo Corradi gave the Roman club a 3-0 win at Reggina.

Roma are a little way off the pace, but goals in either half by Marco Delvecchio and Francesco Totti gave them a win over Como, who snatched a late consolation through Denis Godeas.

Chievo`s upturn in form continued as they ran out 3-0 winners over Perugia.

Nicola Legrottaglie, Ivano Della Morte and Eugenio Corini were on target to give Luigi Del Neri`s side a comfortable win.

Atalanta`s miserable start to the season continued as they were trounced 3-1 at home by Modena.

Giuseppe Colucci, Diomansy Kamara and Stafano Mauri scored the goals that humbled Atalanta, who netted a consolation through Ousmane Dabo.

Roberto Baggio scored two goals but they were not enough to stop his Brescia side from slipping to a 4-3 defeat at improving Parma.

With Atalanta losing, Torino had the chance to climb off the foot of the table and they made no mistake, beating Bologna 2-1.
