Recoba pleads for striking chance

ALVARO RECOBA'S double allowed Internazionale another vital win against Bologna as they look to keep pace with Juventus as the Uruguayan urged coach Hector Cuper to play him up-front to get the best out of him.

Recoba has mainly been used on the wings for Inter this season but kept the heat on Nerazzuri coach Cuper to play him as a forward more regularly with a match winning brace.

"Unfortunately when I played on the wings, I had problems," said Recoba.

"Today, I played as a pure forward and I scored twice. I hope to continue being important in the next matches.

"The defeat against Juve hasn't been forgotten because nobody wants to lose like that.

"But now it is important to continue in this way for the Champions League match against Newcastle which sadly, I won't be available for."

Cuper will be without the talented South American because he is serving a three-game ban and Marco Materazzi and Emre also picked-up knocks in the clash which could rule them out of the tie.

Former Valencia boss Cuper said after the game: "It was important that we won the game for the team's morale.

"It wasn't a great game but we got the result.

"I had foreseen that we would struggle and we haven't been able to make a difference in midfield.

"We played better in the second half but Bologna created a lot of problems for us."

Bologna coach Francesco Guidolin said: "We didn't deserve to lose the game. I feel sorry for the players because they didn't deserve this.

"We attacked them more even though we were a man down and created more chances than Inter."
