Recoba and Stankovic banned

Serie A's underperforming giants Internazionale have been rocked by the news that Alvaro Recoba and Dejan Stankovic will both be suspended for the weekend trip to the Stadio Olimpico.

The Nerazzurri will travel to the Italian capital to face title-chasing Roma without two of their key performers, as a repercussion of the ill-discipline shown by both players in a recent 3-1 home defeat to Brescia.

A recent high profile acquisition from Lazio, Serbian Stankovic saw red in the game for an act of unsporting behaviour and now television cameras have caught Uruguayan striker Recoba indulging in his own show of petulance.

The talented left-footed forward was caught taking Brescia's Markus Schopp by the scruff of the neck, in an incident that has resulted in a two-day suspension.

Inter have lodged appeals over the decisions, which is set to be heard on Thursday.

Rumours emanating from Italy this week have linked former coach Hector Cuper, dismissed this season, with an unexpected return to Internazionale and this latest judgement will further exasperate under pressure current coach Alberto Zaccheroni.
