Baldini: Kuffour out of reach

ROMA sporting director Franco Baldini has admitted that the chances of luring Bayern Munich defender Sammy Kuffour to the Stadio Olimpico and revealed the club face a fight to hang onto their own stars.

The Italian champions made a move to snap up the powerful Ghanaian stopper but Bayern were unwilling to sell their defensive kingpin and Baldini believes it is becoming harder to tempt players into Serie A.

"In the last year we have tried hard to get Kuffour," Baldini told 'Gazetta dello Sport'.

"But the way Italian football is at the moment it is difficult for us to acquire stars from Real (Madrid) or Bayern.

"We also have to consider that our stars will want to move away."

Brazilian pair Zago and Aldair are expected to end their spell in the eternal city at the end of the current campaign while Argentine marksman Gabriel Batistuta could also be sacrificed.
