Como come off the bottom

COMO have pulled themselves of the bottom of Serie A with a fine 2-0 victory over Roma at the Stadio Sinigaglia.

Two goals in the final eight minutes of the match sealed a vital win for the home side, as the capital club finished the match with ten men.

Roma defender Traianos Dellas was sent off for two yellow cards with eleven minutes to go and that turned the match on its head.

Three minutes later, Vedin Music gave Como a 1-0 lead, before former Bradford City and Aston Villa striker Benito Carbone [pictured] scored a second in the final moments.

The win takes Como level on points, and above fellow strugglers Torino while Fabio Capello's men looked to have suffered with a depleted squad during Saturday's defeat.

Atalanta remain four points above the relegation zone after an excellent 2-0 win at Modena.

Frenchman Ousmane Dabo gave the visitors a 1-0 half-time lead before Alex Pinardi sealed the points for the Bergamo club with a second five minutes from the end.

Defeat for Modena pulls them into trouble, and leaves them facing a battle to avoid relegation themselves.
