Roma sweat over Chivu

By Nadia Carminati
Roma defeated negative opponents Hajduk Split with a late strike from Antonio Cassano, but the win came at a cost as Cristian Chivu picked up a shoulder injury.

Coach Fabio Capello, frustrated with the Croatian side's defensive tactics, is left sweating over star Romanian defender Chivu's availability for the crunch derby with Lazio at the weekend.

"Luckily we won so, in Split, they must play in a different way," complained Capello afterwards.

"We have had many chances to score. It seems impossible that we have just been able to win at the end.

"The opponents closed all space for us, but I'm happy with the team's performance.

"Cassano? He is an important player.

"Chivu? I don't know how he feels. We will see what the doctors say in view of the derby."

Cassano (pictured) came on as a substitute and profited from John Carew's headed set up in the dying seconds, while Chivu also started on the bench.
